Open Gardens at Sycamore House - June 25, 2013
On Saturday 8th June, Hammersmith United Charities’ (HUC) Sycamore House joined 212 private gardens in London and opened to the public, as part of The London Open Garden Squares Weekend. This was the first time the residents had experienced this, although many of them had visited HUC’s other Almhouse – John Betts House in previous years during its Open Garden weekend. Everyone was nervous, even though it was a glorious, sunny afternoon. We had 51 visitors who all loved the garden. The residents held a refreshment stall selling tea and cakes, we had a plant stall, and Pearl, one of our residents, sold some of her hand knitted baby cardigans. A total of £130 was raised selling plants and cakes. With the proceeds, the residents voted to buy a small statue for the garden to remember our first opening. Thanks to all who visited.
