Volunteers from General Electric do a Tom Cruise at John Betts’ House! - March 11, 2013
On Friday 22nd February, a freezing cold day with snow flurries, a team of volunteers from the IT department of General Electric, Hammersmith arrived at John Betts House.
Their mission, which they chose to accept, was to clear the front of the building, put in three raised beds, rearranged the paving to fit, fill the raised beds with compost, then finish by putting down gravel to make the edges neat.
As fast as even Tom Cruise could do it, they achieved their aim; the area is now clean and neat and the beds are ready to be planted up.
On the evidence of a lot of laughter, it seems that they enjoyed themselves and were satisfied by a job completed and done well.
The project was organised, materials sourced, priced, and advised by Jackie Thompson HUC’s gardener, and the volunteers matched to the project and health and safety checked by Hammersmith Volunteers.
The really excellent, home made cake during coffee break was made by JBH’s own master baker, Ellen.
HUC is really grateful to GE’s team for all their hard work and enthusiasm. We hope to invite you back when the sun is shining, the weather is warm and the bulbs have flowered. There will be cake!
