Joy McNamara
Scheme Manager (Sycamore House)
“What brought me to Sycamore House?”
It’s been a long and winding road to being employed by Hammersmith United Charities.
I first entered management in a residential setting, working for Westminster City Council Social Services Department in the early 70s; lived on top of the job for 10 years near Marble Arch Central London as assistant to the officer in charge or a 60 bedded residential home for the elderly (part II Accommodation).
I then moved west and took up a job as Scheme Manager of a sheltered housing complex in Hounslow, owned by Thames Valley Housing Association, but operated by Hounslow Borough Council. After 5 years I got itchy feet and moved further west to Camberley, Surrey, where I owned/managed a care home for the elderly jointly with my husband (12 beds).
That came to an end in 2004 where I then moved east to Ealing and started to do agency work in several sheltered housing schemes (relief) throughout London (stadium housing Wembly) which has led me to this wonderful opportunity of meeting up with such lovely people, residents and staff of Hammersmith United Charities. So my wish is ‘long may it last’ at Sycamore House.
