Sycamore House – More Details
Residents' Hall
Sycamore House has a large Residents' Hall for the use of all residents and their visitors. It is well-equipped with terrestrial and satellite television and video facilities. There is also a library with books and games for everyone's use. Residents are encouraged to arrange social evenings and the Scheme Manager organises special functions. There is an annual Christmas Party and barbeques in the summer.
Residents' Events
There is plenty of opportunity for socialising at both Almshouses in the happy and friendly atmosphere of the resident's hall and gardens. In addition, events are organised from time to time including popular musical evenings, bingo, day trips and other outings. However, all residents are encouraged to be a part of the local community and join in local activities. Indeed, both Houses have strong links with local schools. Every year, children from these schools visit each house to sing carols. Residents can come and go as they wish, but must advise the Scheme Manager when nights away or holidays are planned. Visitors are welcome any time.
Churches
There are many local churches of all denominations for residents to attend. If residents wish for a spiritual adviser to visit, this can be arranged.
Pets
The Trustees regret that pets cannot be accommodated. Fish or small caged birds may be kept if they are quiet!
Laundry
There is a communal laundry currently free of charge, available to all residents in each House equipped with washing machines and dryers. The Scheme Manager will, if necessary, advise on how to use them.
Scheme Manager
The Scheme Manager or Relief Scheme Manager visits' each day or more often if needed. Their aim is to ensure the well-being of all residents without intruding on their right to privacy. For added security, each flat has a Scheme Manager call system.
Insurance
The Trustees are responsible for insurance of all the buildings, but residents need to insure their own possessions including furniture and valuables. For residents' own security and peace of mind it is recommended that they keep only sufficient cash as is necessary for every day purposes and that they put the rest in a bank or building society. The Scheme Manager will advise on this if necessary.
Guest Flat
Each House has a guest flat so that friends or relatives of residents may visit on a short term basis (up to seven days) for which a small charge is made.
As a resident of 20 years I know that Sycamore House is a pleasant and safe place to live after retirement.
