Community Grants
The maximum grant is £15,000. The average size is around £7,500, and there is no minimum amount you can apply for. Most first grants are for less than £5,000.
There will be two Community Grants rounds in the 2026-27 financial year. The application closing date for the first round of Community Grants is 5pm, 1 June 2026. We expect to make grant offers in the week commencing 13 July.
Who is eligible for a Community Grant?
Organisations working with people experiencing some kind of ‘need’ in our area of benefit are welcome to apply for a grant. We are particularly keen to fund smaller, local organisations with a strong connection to their beneficiaries and a good knowledge of the local area.
You should be supporting one of our priority areas:
- Meeting basic needs (food, shelter, advice etc)
- Work with families and children (supporting parents, education, play, transition points, vulnerable children)
- Countering isolation (in any group and for any reason)
- Building confident individuals and communities
Your project can be one-off or ongoing, but we’re most interested in the difference you’ll make to local people. We know that projects are dependent on core functions. We are happy to contribute to core costs as long as there are clear benefits to people living in our area of benefit.

Guy is a retired solicitor who has lived in Hammersmith for over 40 years. As well as having a long legal career, Guy has decades of experience in the not-for-profit sector. He was a school governor for 35 years and spent several years volunteering as Chair of the Finance Committee at Hammersmith & Fulham Law Centre. If you recognise Guy, that’s probably because he also served as a local councillor for Hammersmith & Fulham.
“We recently represented a migrant woman who was trafficked to the UK by a wealthy family. She was forced to work extremely long hours as a nanny, housekeeper and cleaner. She didn’t receive anywhere near the minimum wage, and the family had control of her passport and bank account.”
Everyone at Hammersmith United Charities would like to thank Vivienne Lukey as she steps down after 12 years as a trustee, including six years as Chair.
